Complying with Export Regulations

What You Need to Know:

Items Subject to Export Regulations

The following may be considered "export controlled":

  •  Items, Equipment & Prototypes: Includes tools, instruments, and their components.
  • Materials: Both raw and finished, regardless of their composition.
  • Software: Includes source code (not open-source) and encryption source code and object code.
  • Technology: Technical data or technology in any form.

Export License Requirements

If your research involves items or information on specific export control lists, you may need to secure an export license before proceeding.

  • An export license enables the legal export of controlled equipment or sharing export-controlled software and technology in the U.S.

Consequences of Non-Compliance

Failing to obtain necessary export authorizations can result in

  •  serious repercussions, including fines and civil and criminal penalties.

Always check if your work involves export-controlled items or technology and ensure compliance with relevant export laws and regulations to avoid potential delays, fines and penalties.
